Funnies From My Mom

My mom sent me an email this morning with some funnies that I just had to share. Hope you laugh! =)

Girl Wisdom

"The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat are really good friends."

"I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers."

"Skinny people irritate me! Especially when they say things like...'You know sometimes I forget to eat!'....Now I've forgotten my address, my mother's maiden name and my keys, but I have never forgotten to eat. You have to be a special kind of stupid to forget to eat!"

Traumatized at the Gym

Oh my gosh, I saw the scariest thing this morning at the gym! No, not thighs in spandex (although that would have been traumatizing too). A spinning class!

You see, I've seen this "Spinning Class" listed on the class schedule for 5:30am now for a month and I've yet to actually see the class. "How hard could it be?" I wondered. There's no one in the aerobics room, so where exactly is this "Spinning Class"?! Well, today, I saw it!

There's actually this room off to the side of the aerobics room and it's crammed with these giant bikes. You know why I never noticed it before?? It's because they hold the class in the DARK! No lights on in the room except for the faint pin point glow of the stereo! Who rides a bike in the DARK?? WHY would you ride a bike in the dark?

Seeing that immediately made me cross that class off of my "List of Classes That I'll Someday Take When I Feel Like Inflicting A Lot Of Bodily Harm On Myself", I'll tell you that! Oh, and as if riding in the dark wasn't a deterrent enough, guess how long the class lasts! Just guess. Take a wild stab at it.

NINETY MINUTES! 90! 9-0! That there class is for the masochistic, I tell you. Who rides a bike to nowhere in the dark for NINETY minutes at 5:30 in the morning?! At least it explains why I've never seen anyone coming or going from the class. I guess the ambulance just pulls up at 7. It would make sense....it would be consistent business for them.

I think I'm traumatized.

Gym Mama Event of the Week

The GymMama.net Event of the Week...

If you're in the RI area you may want to consider participating in the 6th Annual Matty Siravo Memorial 5K Run/Walk for Epilepsy on June 14th.

It's goal is to raise awareness and funds for epilepsy research. You can find out more about the event and read about the sweet, loving little boy that the event is named after at www.MattyFund.org.

Live Like You Were Dying

My husband's oldest brother has cancer. The same cancer that his mom had and similar to what his dad had. That's pretty scary. Especially since his older brother is only in his early 40s.

It's really made me think about the moments we get. And more importantly, what we do with those moments. I firmly believe that there is a glorious heaven waiting for all of us and that our time on Earth is just a tiny fraction of our existence. But it's where we are now. So, what are we going to do with it?

I started thinking about family and friends that have passed on and what I remember and hold dear about them. Isn't funny how none of the things that made them who they were had to do with how much "stuff" they had or what kind of car they drove or what kind of house they lived in. It's the way they loved and lived. But still, we don't learn. We want bigger houses, more "stuff", a nicer car, a big fat bank account.

But what will our kids remember about us? What will they tell their children and grandchildren? Hopefully, they'll tell about the way we played with them, the times we laughed together, the traditions we started, the way we treated others with kindness and compassion, and all of those little, good, meaningful things.

So, today, let your workout be playing. Let your medicine be laughter. Let your cool down be ice cream on a warm spring night. And live like you were dying.

Kindness, Cheerfulness & Cancer

So many things to tell you today...

The trip to the gym this morning was eventful. A good workout, some amusing stories to relay and the ever present closed captioning word of the day. Ready?

Okay. So, today I witnessed some random acts of kindness. Pretty impressive at 6:15in the morning, but since I tend to believe the best of people it was nice to see. The first was when a gentleman helped pick up another gentleman's oxygen tank after it had tipped over. Now you don't usually see a lot of big oxygen tanks at the gym, but you have to hand it to this guy. He needed to work out and along came the tank. And a purple Crown Royale bag to hold his belongings tied to the oxygen tank. At least I'm assuming his belongings were in it and not Crown Royale. You wouldn't bring alcohol to a gym now would you? But wasn't that nice of someone else to help him pick up his oxygen tank?

The next act of kindness I witnessed was while I was riding feverishly on the recumbent bike. (Speaking of which, I really need to ask someone how to make those things work correctly....it never has much resistance. Hmm.) There was a woman trying to adjust that ungodly glute machine where you lay across it and curl your legs towards your butt. She tried pushing the leg pad arm thingy down to no avail. So, along came a big guy who apparently had just done some chest exercises because it got there before he did. "I'll get that for you," he booms. And then proceeds to struggle with it just like she did. Until they both notice the lever on the side that they need to pull. Ta-Da! Isn't that so sweet that he fixed it for her? (And then stayed there making sure she didn't need anything else....and then walked by her 3 more times to say hi...)

Such nice acts of random kindness so early in the morning. And such a great source of amusement.

As I got ready to leave I was saying goodbye to the nice guy who works at the desk in the mornings. He remarked that he always likes when I come in in the morning, because I'm always so friendly and cheerful. Awwww.... How nice. Anyone who has seen me before my fourth cup of coffee would have trouble believing there's any cheerfulness in my morning at 6am, but alas, on gym mornings there is. It made me think. And yes, hard as it is to believe, it makes me happy to go to the gym first thing in the morning. Even before I've had coffee. I think it's the whole "doing something for myself" thing. That, and knowing that my coffee will be waiting when I come home and I can get a shower. (Thanks for the coffee, hubby!) The little things.

And one more thing. My hubby's family has a history of colorectal cancer and his brother is currently receiving chemo for it. While looking online for information about the experimental drugs available for cancer that has metastasized into the liver yesterday I came across an interesting fact. Did you know that exercise can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by 40-50%? 40-50%. That's huge. And in people who have had surgery to remove the cancer, those who exercised after the surgery (no matter what their level of fitness was prior to the surgery) reduced their chances of having a recurrence by 40% too! Colorectal cancer kills more people each year than any other type of cancer.

So, get up, get moving and stay healthy. Because no one deserves to lose a husband or daddy or brother or uncle or wife or mommy or sister or aunt.... (Nudge, nudge)

Memorial Day Weekend Workout

My workout this weekend?

A yardsale on Saturday and transforming about a quarter of our backyard into a vegetable & herb garden. (Did you know blisters can be the size of your entire hand?!)

Sleep Walking

After hitting the snooze button 3 times I managed to crawl out of bed and head off to the gym. The guy that works at the front desk is always very pleasant and inquired as to how I was doing this morning.

"I don't think I'm awake," I confessed. He laughed and assured me that after a few minutes on the treadmill I would be. Liar. I could have just closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep while walking.

I can honestly say I spent a little extra time "getting ready to do sit-ups". That can also be read as "laying on the mat with my eyes semi-closed." I just couldn't help it! I was so sleepy!

Anyway, I made it through some lower body exercises, 20 minutes on the treadmill without falling off and about 100 various ab exercises. Now I'm on my third cup of coffee and looking forward to my nap later. Please God make the kids all go to sleep at the same time! =)

**********

Oh! And your closed captioning puzzle of the day.... "he pul pig my stys re plsd ith he korts rue ling." I think I should look into being a closed captioning typist....obviously, spelling skills and accuracy are not required.

Romance at the Gym

Now I know what you're thinking..."Romance at the gym, eh? Aren't you married?" Yes, and quite happily at that. Which is why I find romance at the gym so gosh darn amusing!

I forgot to charge my iPod last night, so I was sans music for my early morning workout. And a good thing that turned out to be. Now, as I recount this tale of budding romance keep in mind that it's 6:15 AM. AM. "AM" as in "before most people are awake" AM.

So, there I am...happily walking along on the treadmill to warm up for my killer (HA!) upper body workout, watching the local news channel with atrocious closed captioning ("Te weher wl be 605 drges a7DBy patly cpulhy" - HUH!???!), and plotting my plan of attack on the upper body machines when along comes...Tra la la la! Mr. Yellow Shoes Romeo! (The shoe colors of all persons involved have been changed to protect their identity.) He had escaped from the Testosterone Zone, I think.

I noticed that he was sort of peeking at the left hands of all of the female treadmill aficionados as he chose, and quite carefully I might add, his machine of "Wait until I show you how in shape I am as I run really fast on this treadmill!" So, he swaggered on up onto the treadmill, adjusted his ripped at the sleeves and cut (with apparently dull scissors) at the midriff tank top, flexed his not so defined (also can be read as "flabby as heck - oh, my gosh, did you just have a baby muscles) muscles, and gave the poor, poor woman on the treadmill next to him a "Hey, how you doin'?" See what I would have missed had I charged my iPod last night? Fate was truly on my side.

"Looks like it's gonna be a nice weekend. Got big plans?" says Romeo who is now walking at...I kid you not, a 2mph pace.

"Not really," says poor, poor woman on the treadmill next to him....who is running at a 5mph pace. Keep running, honey, but you can't escape him...you're on a treadmill.

"Yeah, me neither. I remember I got engaged this weekend in 1998. Didn't work out though. She was busy with grad school, I was working....just didn't work out." He's now walking at a 2.5mph pace.

"Oh."

"Yeah, she never was a morning person. Looks like you are. I am too. Do you work out every morning at this time?" He does his little neck rolls...well, assuming he had a neck...it was hard to tell...his head just seemed to be plopped onto his shoulders.

"No." (That was actually a tiny fib on Poor, Poor treadmill woman's part, because I see here there every morning at the same time. Don't worry though, I won't tell Yellow Shoes.)

"Oh. Well, yeah, it feels good to workout first thing in the morning though, doesn't it?" No pause for a breath. "It's good to gauge how hard your working out by how much you can talk. Don't you think?" Keep in mind he's still only walking at 2.5 mph.

"No."

"Yeah, me neither. Well, this was a good workout. See you around?" A good workout? At 2.5 mph for 5 minutes? Man, I want the workout guidelines he has!

"Doubtful." She muttered it. He was already gone and waving to her on his journey back to the Testosterone Zone.

Ah....budding romance. It's worth the gym membership just to see how this one progresses.

Sleeping Like a Baby

From now on, it's 5:30 for the gym. Whether the baby is awake or not, I'm hopping (or falling at that time of day) up and getting out the door. I'm thrilled she sleeps so well, but it's not working out so well with me going to workout.

Oh, and on an exciting note...my thighs are no longer as big as they used to be. Perhaps more information than you really wanted, but, wahoo, the tide is no longer influenced when I walk! I'm thankful for the little things.

Running in the Rain

Yes, you read that right..."RUNNING" in the rain. Who would have thought?

It was pouring yesterday as I was about to leave work. The kind of rain where you know there's no chance of anything except total saturation. Of course I had parked at the very back of the building...thinking, of course, that it would provide good exercise.

There was a small crowd of visitors waiting for the rain to abate before they dashed to their cars, but I was feeling adventurous. So, without the protection of a plastic shopping bag on my head (although, thanks for the offer, Mr. L) or my pants rolled to my knee (thanks for the suggestion, Mrs. D) I decided to run for it. In dress pants and flats.

For those of you who have never run through a torrential downpour let me suggest that you take a moment in your life and RUN. Not only does it make you feel about 8 years old, but it makes you laugh! By the time I got to the car I was soaked to the bone and laughing like a loon. My clothes were plastered to my body and my hair looked like I'd just gotten out of the shower. I dried off (with a clean gym towel I had left in the car!) and then paused for a moment. Because I realized I had just run around the building, in the pouring rain, wearing dress clothes, and was not winded. How fun is that!?!

Needless to say, I had a grin on my face the entire way home. And wouldn't you know it....it stopped raining completely about 2 minutes after I left work.

The Demise of the Pedometer Thermometer

Saturday morning my poor "pedometer thermometer" met its match. A flight of stairs and a bounce across a hardwood floor. So instead of being stuck on 00000 steps I think I need a new one.

(And to my husband, yes, I have the little red one, but the reset button is really raised so every time I swing my arm it resets the steps. Annoying and very difficult to count steps.)

The Pedometer Thermometer

Since the Family Circle Walking Challenge began on Monday I have been faithfully strapping on my pedometer each day to record my steps. My sons, being the ever so observant and inquisitive children that they are, inquired about it. The conversation went like this...

"Mommy, what is that thing you have on you?" (Son #2)

"It's a pedometer. It counts the steps I take, so that I make sure I'm getting enough exercise during the day." (Mom a.k.a. Me)

"Why do you wear it on your pants? Wouldn't it make more sense to wear it on your shoes?" (Son #1)

"Hmm...Well, I guess so, but this counts when my hip moves, I think, and that equals a step." (Mom)

"Aren't you worried it will count as two steps?" (Son #1)

"No, not really. Are you?" (Mom)

"Yeah." (Son #1)

"Why?" (Mom)

"Well, your hips are so big that the thermometer might think you're taking two steps instead of just one and then you wouldn't really be getting enough exercise." (Son #1) (And yes, he said "thermometer".)

"My hips are so big?" (Mom)

"Yeah, 'cause you're a lady. And sometimes ladies have, you know, like bigger hips than kids. 'Cause we're smaller." (Son #2)

"Uh-huh. Well, I'm pretty sure it's accurate, but thank you for your concern. Now, why don't you go play?" (Mom)

1lb.+ 1 lb. = 2 lbs.

Two pounds. It may not seem like a lot, but two pounds is two pounds. Two pounds less than what I weighed last week and two pounds less than before I got pregnant last year. Wahoo!

The scale was my friend today. It isn't always, but today we were like long lost buddies.

So,this morning I went to the gym REALLY early. 5:30am early. The baby had woken up and instead of going back to sleep for 15 minutes I just got dressed and went. Although I REALLY wanted those 15 minutes of sleep. In fact, I almost had those 15minutes of sleep while walking on the treadmill. There's something hypnotic about the sight of someone running in front of you that makes you just want to close you eyes and fall asleep. Although I think the word "fall" is the key word, because that's what would surely happen.

I've also discovered that it's quite a dangerous endeavor to try crunches and sit-ups while tired. You know why? Yep, that's right....because you have to lay down to do them. Cushy mat(nevermind that a sweaty guy was just doing sit-ups right by you), rythmic thumping of people walking and running on the treadmill....perfect conditions for a short nap. I like to think of it as "stretching-with-my-eyes-closed."

Ah well, two pounds down is worth not getting 15 minutes more sleep. And if you're planning on calling me today...try not to do it between 12-3....I plan on catching short snooze between then.

Some things...

Some things I've learned about exercising, fitness and myself...

1. I'm a morning workout gal.

2. As much as I love the recumbent bike, it always makes my knees hurt. Darn it.

3. Exercise makes me feel good.

4. Not exercising does not make me feel good.

5. The number on the scale means less than how my jeans fit.

6. It's not selfish to want to exercise for my own health.

7. Core strength and balance are great things...if you have them. If not, things can get dicey.

8. Exercise clothes are comfortable. They make me want to wear them all day, everywhere.

9. I'm not as strong as I thought I was, but I'm a lot stronger than I was.

10. Bathing suits are evil, evil things and magazines lie....there is no "perfect fit."

11. Bouncy, cushioned treadmills are harder to walk on. (See #7 for an explanation)

12. Wearing a pedometer is kinda fun.

13. Classes would be fun to take...if there was no one else around.

14. I like blogging about exercising. It's fun to write and makes me want to exercise. Otherwise, I have nothing to write about.

15. I like exercising. (Who ever would have thought I'd say that?!)

Doors, Cats and Some Smaller Size Jeans

Sometimes exercise isn't the only thing that can raise your heartrate to "High Intensity." Try walking down the stairs at 6:30 in the morning and finding your back door WIIIIIIDE OPEN. Yep, thought I was going to lose about 10 years of my life on that one this morning. Thankfully, my pony, er dog, was by my side, so I wasn't worried about an intruder. Anyone stupid enough to break into my house after seeing the size of our dog really deserves what they get.

Apparently, the deadbolt was not locked and since it was, and still is, exceptionally windy, the door had blown open. Yes, the bottom lock was locked, but apparently, the door was not shut tightly. Thankfully, no one had come in. I then had to run around the house frantically searching for our two indoor-only cats. One of them, the smart one, was sound asleep on top of a pile of soft, squishy stuffed animals. The other one, the mischevious one, was no where to be found. So, I began calling him and heard a faint, "Meoow" from outside. Out from under the 90 year old wisteria bush he emerged and into the house be ran. Thank God.

So, after that I figured my cardio was done for the day. Okay, not really. It was close though. Since it was too late to head to the gym I jumped on the treadmill for 20 minutes and got a good workout in. I'll do some upper body resistance stuff later, but just ran out of "me time" this morning.

Some exciting news on the clothes front...I was able to stuff myself into jeans that have not seen the light of day since 3-4 months before I got pregnant last year. That's down 2 sizes from when I started this journey a month ago. I'm getting there...

Family Circle Walking Challenge

I received my June Family Circle magazine in the mail yesterday and have now set a new goal. There's a walking challenge for the next 12 weeks. It starts on Monday, May 12th and the person who logs the most miles during the 12 weeks will win a trip for 2 to Canyon Ranch in either Arizona or Massachusetts.

My hubby was all for it once he realized we could go back to visit Tucson!

You can sign-up for the challenge at www.familycircle.com/walk, but not until Monday. It runs until August 3rd. Leave me a note if you'll be participating too! I'd love to hear from you!

Friday Morning Workout

I didn't hear the alarm go off this morning, because we had turned the fan on last night and I didn't have the volume set-up loud enough to compensate for the extra noise. So, when I woke up it was 2 minutes before 6. You'd be proud though, because I jumped out of bed, got dressed and was on the road by 6:05. And it's a rainy, dreary, sleepy morning, so that's even more impressive, huh? =)

With limited time I figured my best course of action was to hop on the cardio machine that would kick my butt the fastest. Yes, that's right. The Elliptical a.k.a. "The Cardio Killer" was my warm-up machine of choice. I lasted 5 minutes. Honestly, I have no idea how people can stay on that thing for any length of time. If you're one of those people who use it for an hour, God bless you, because I feel like I'm going to collapse after a few minutes.

So, a quick jaunt on the Cardio Killer, some lower body resistance training, abs and back on the treadmill for 15 minutes. Time was short, but I really felt "worked out" by the time 6:50 rolled around.

I may go again this weekend if I'm feeling like I need a break!

I'm planning on planting flowers and veggies this weekend though, so that may count as my resistance training! I'm going to be wearing gloves since my sister-in-law now has a finger the size of Tennessee since she did not wear gloves while working in her yard weeding and planting. I have no desire to be the next victim of Fingergate 2008. =)

Step Forward - The NephCure Foundation

Originally, I stumbled upon this event while compiling a list of events in Pennsylvania. Since my mom is a kidney cancer survivor I was intrigued, but didn't have time to really read much about this organization.

Well, today I read...and read and read. The NephCure Foundation promotes awareness and research for 2 kidney diseases: Nephrotic Syndrome and FSGS. Both attack young and with little warning. I strongly urge you to visit their site, NephCure.org, to learn more. The personal stories are heart-wrenching and are filled with courage, hope and passion.

If you're in the Southeastern PA area I encourage you to join Team Gym Mama and walk this event. It's a fun walk (meaning that it's not timed and no prizes are awarded) and is only about 2 miles long. So, please consider joining me on Sunday, October 12th and help raise funds and awareness for Step Forward/The NephCure Foundation!

Won't be able to be there? You can donate anyway!

Ping Pong, Volleyball & High School

My youngest son asked me what "ping pong" is this morning and, oh, the memories that evoked. Not your usual memory jerker, I know, but ping pong brings back memories from that long ago thing called "high school gym class." And for me, gym class was always a lesson in being uncoordinated, my lack of athletic ability and pity.

Let me explain...

I was so bad at gym class that for an entire year I was given the job of "score keeper" for volleyball. Score keeper. Do you know what a score keeper does? Yep, that's right, keep score. By making tally marks on a chalk board. While seated. For an entire year. Even I realized the complete waste of time it was, but honestly, I didn't care. Everyone else was sweaty and I wasn't. That was a bonus.

And then for 6 months I got to take ping pong. How in the world did that happen, you may wonder. Well, I'm pretty savvy at reading and I somehow found a copy of the activities that could be offered each semester. Ping pong was one of them. I don't think anyone every asked for ping pong, but I saw it as my chance to get out of swimming and basketball.

The gym teachers took pity on me. God bless them. They knew how truly atrocious I was at sports and just couldn't bring themselves to watch. So, for 6 months I "played" ping pong. You'd think that with all of the hand dexterity I had gained as score keeper (for an entire year) that ping pong would have been my thing. Alas, I was no Forrest Gump. I wasn't even as good as Forrest's cousin twice removed from his mother's uncle's sister's side. I spent most of my time chasing that gosh darn little ball around the room and counting the minutes until gym was over.

So, when my son asked me this morning about ping pong I got to thinking about the difference between being fit and being athletic. I don't think I'll ever be athletic. I don't like team sports; I'm not a big rah-rah-go-team kind of gal. I don't like competing which is really the main purpose of athletics, or so it seems. No, I'm more of the "walk-or-exercise-so-my-thighs-will-fit-in-my-pants" kind of gal. And what's the side effect of exercising so that I don't have to wear a tent? Yep,that's right....getting fit.

So, hold the ping pong and the volleyball time keeping position and give me some free weights and some walking shoes. I've got "gym class."

Lunge and Step and Lunge and Step...

Lunge and step and lunge and step and lunge...all without falling down! Impressed aren't you?! In just a few short weeks I've gained a bunch of balance and can now do walking lunges across the gym floor without falling on my face (or my bottom!).

My list of achievements now includes squats, lunges, those push yourself up arm thingys where you hold onto the edge of a chair (I'm sure that's their technical name), crunches, and those sit-up things where your left arm goes to your right knee/right elbow goes to left knee. It may not sound like much, but really, it IS!

And another big wowie...my pants don't fit! Wahoo!! They don't fit, because they're too big! It's exciting to have your pants be too big for you, instead of you being too big for your pants!

So, this week I'm going to take a good long look at the upcoming events in my area and sign up for some in the fall. Let's raise some money for some good causes and get fit doing it! Who's with me? Anonymous Aunt? (BTW, Anonymous Aunt now refers to herself as "Anonymous Aunt." *grin*)

Cardio with the Kiddos

The weatherman said that today was going to be a lovely, warm spring day, so I decided that instead of going to the gym this morning I'd take the kids to the park and let the older ones ride their bikes while I pushed the stroller. So, that's what we ended up doing.

The park where we go is relatively flat and has a loop that's about 3/4 of a mile. The boys eagerly strapped on their helmets and off we went. The baby had fallen asleep in the car, so I just hooked her car seat to the stroller instead of waking her. That alone added another 5 lbs. to the weight of the stroller.

I actually managed a light jog for most of the first loop without feeling like I needed an oxygen tank on my back. As we were going to start the second loop my youngest son decided that he didn't want to ride his bike anymore, but didn't want to walk either.

That left only one option.

Yep, that's right, I carried him. Carrying 45 lbs. of wiggling child on one's back while pushing a 20+ lb. stroller is not all that easy...especially when you're laughing for most of it! I ended up carrying him for about a half mile, but he kept slipping down and strangling me in the process, so down he went.

We finished off our loop for a total of 1.5 miles and headed for the play equipment, because the boys still had energy to burn. There was a nice, unoccupied bench right next to the slide that I claimed as my own since I did not have more energy to burn.

We had a blast, but the most exciting thing was that I could do it. 3 weeks ago I could barely walk down the block without feeling winded. Really. And today I carried a 43 lb. child on my back for a half-mile while laughing and pushing a stroller without being exhausted! THAT'S exciting!

The scale may not be going down as quickly as I want it to, but that's okay. I'm having a blast!

Why are you going to the gym again?

I actually set my alarm this morning! I figured that if I started the week off right it would help set the pattern for the rest of the week. Let's hope that's the case!

I got out of the house later than usual...a few minutes after 6. The boys were awake and stood in their window waving and blowing kisses. The youngest asked why I was going to the gym again this morning. I was tempted to say, "To rid myself of unwanted fat," but that seemed a bit much to tell a 4 year old. So, instead, I said, "Because I want to be healthy. And one way to get healthy is by exercising."

That was a much better way to explain it, don't you agree? Anyone who knows my youngest son knows that he's got an amazing auditory memory and can remember just about everything he hears. Much to his daddy's chagrin many times. So, I have no doubt that he will now associate exercising with being healthy.

And that's what it's all for, isn't it? Exercising to be healthy. Exercising to be a good role model for our children. Exercising to live longer and with a better quality of life.

Losing that unwanted fat is just (pardon the expression) icing on the cake.

The Step Class

I got to go to the gym a little bit later this morning, because my hubby took the day off. It was almost harder to go at 7:45 than it is to go at 5:45. Weird, huh?

So, today's adventure involved a Step Class. Now, I know what you're thinking. "She took a step class! Wahoo!" Sorry to disappoint you, but I most assuredly did NOT take a step class. I value my life and since my balance still isn't anything to write home about, the thought of stepping up and down while moving quickly from side to side is definitely not a good idea. No, no. My adventure involved watching the Step Class.

There were about 15 women in there....ranging in age from perky and bouncy to exhausted and saggy. I could quite clearly identify with the exhausted and saggy gals. So, as I'm watching the women while happily peddaling away on my recumbent bike I began to notice something. They're all coordinated. Not in colors, although most of them were! They have coordination. That's something I'm severly lacking. Just ask anyone who knows me. There are jokes about it....all at my expense.

It was at that moment when I first noticed that you need coordination to take a step class that I pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it's not a class for me. So, since a Pilates class would probably kill me at this point and a Step Class requires coordination and a Yoga class requires balance and a Kickboxing Class makes you sweat....I think I'm left with Water Aerobics. You can wear sweats in the pool right? Because there's no way I'm getting in a bathing suit!
