Nothing to do with exercise, but is there anything funnier than a giant dog in a "Alone Cone"? hehehehe

P.S. - His face has been hidden to protect his identity.

Weird Title Bar

Okay, so something weird happened with the title bar when I was trying to upload the new picture. I'll fix it tomorrow. It's off to work now for me. They have heat!

Jumping Counts

So, I get these daily "motivational" emails from Jillian a.k.a. "Scary Trainer on TBL". According to today's email jumping is great cardio.

Since times are tough and home heating oil is, or was 3 weeks ago, super high, we've been keeping the thermostat at 60 degrees. I knew it was cold when even the baby didn't try to take off her warm, fleece hat this morning. So, while heating up my third cup of coffee this morning I decided to exercise according to Jillian. Yep, that's right, for 1 minute and 20 seconds I jumped up and down. Not only did it serve exercising purposes, it also warmed me up.

"Stop whining, kids. If you want to be warm just jump up and down." My new mommy mantra...along with, "If you can't feel your fingers wear gloves. Yes, I know we're in the house."

What's Wrong With Me?

I could be on the treadmill right now, but instead I was looking at THIS.

Sleep

Honestly, it's not that I didn't want to workout this morning...I was just sleeping instead. I hesitate to use the term "oversleeping", because that implies that you've had quite a bit of rest already. Somehow 6 hours of interrupted-every-45-minutes sleep hardly qualifies as a good night's rest. So, at 6am I am happy to report that I was sleeping. Finally.

My darling husband will be home later and I don't have to work tonight, so I may just hop on the old treadmill this afternoon. We didn't make it to the library to pick up DVDs (poky homeschooling children today), so unfortunately there will be no Gilad for me this evening.

Thanks for the fitTV tip, Amy, but we are a cable-less household. That leaves me yoga with the 85 year old lady in pink spandex at 5am on PBS. I'm certain TiVo was NOT created for that! ;)

Food, Mom and Morning Workouts

The smorgasboard (I like the word too, Jer) yesterday was yummy. And big. Although my meal consisted of mostly a salad, some mashed potatoes, some cold roast beef that should have been eaten warm, and a dish of apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. It's tough feeding a baby miniature size bites of things and still eating your food while it's warm. Impossible really.

Well, my mom flies back tomorrow. What a quick two weeks! Don't you find that time goes so much faster as you get older? Scary. Anyway, a wonderful time was had with my mom and it wasn't so much that we did anything super special....it was just being together that was fun. That's the way it should be.

I was thinking of starting to walk on the treadmill again tomorrow morning. It sounds like a good idea now, but tomorrow at 6am I may have second thoughts. So, please, don't hold me to it. We're also going to hit the library tomorrow, so I'll be checking out the exercise DVDs....maybe I'll get lucky and find Gilad. A girl can dream.

Exercise at the Smorgasbord

Does walking around the buffet count as exercise?

It's a BIG smorgasbord. BIG.

And there's A LOT of food.

It's not looking good for weight loss today.

My Beef with the 3 Day

I think everyone who walks 60 miles for any disease is a hero. Seriously. 60 miles is a looooong way and to do it in 3 days...well, that just takes a special kind of person. My mom did it and my friend, Melissa, has done it 3 times. They're amazing women in my book.

My beef with the walk isn't the walk itself or what they're raising money to fight. My issue with it is the "if you don't raise enough money (i.e. - at least $2300) you can't walk OR you can charge the rest yourself and pay the amount you didn't raise." Super big kudos to those men and women who DO raise the money. That's a lot of money - especially in these times.

But for those who have trained and raised money, but have not raised enough money...how disheartening. I received an email from a woman I barely know asking for funds. She had raised $1800, but it wasn't enough. So, here she was, a week before the event, trying desparately to raise hundreds of dollars so that she would be allowed to walk 60 miles. Allowed to walk 60 miles. Is $1800 too little of an amount? Really?

I'm ALL for using fitness to make a difference, but when a charity says that an almost $2K donation is not enough....it turns me off.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Don't Waste It

"Life is so short. When you're young it seems like it goes so slowly, but when you get older...when you get older it goes too fast. And we waste so much of it on things that don't matter. Things that don't make a difference in anyone's life. Why do we do that? Don't waste it. Make every moment count and use your life to make a difference. It goes by so fast."
-Words of wisdom from an 87 year old

(Have I mentioned I love my job?)

Omar Update

Omar took a turn and managed to maneuver through the Caribbean without any of the islands taking a direct hurricane force hit. He's now a Category 3 out in the wide open ocean. My dad, my parents' friends, their tiny little island are all safe and sound.

God is good! =)

Confessions Of A CF Husband: The Latest

Please keep Tricia, Nate & Gwyneth in your prayers today too...

Confessions Of A CF Husband: The Latest

Gilad & Omar

First, let me give a big ol' THANK YOU to Amy for the encouraging stay-at-home workout tips! Thanks for taking the time to post AND for bringing up Gilad. You brought back some funny memories...

So, the year was 1990. I was a sophmore in high school. Gym class was a dreaded thing. That is until our gym teacher took pity and offered "Aerobics." Aerobics with...you guessed it...Gilad! None of us could keep up, but boy was it funny. I think we got more of a workout laughing than actually moving. Good memories. Thanks, Amy! =)

******************************************************

Well, Hurricane Omar is headed straight for my dad. Really. Straight. For. Him. It's supposed to pass over St. Thomas around midnight tonight and my parents live on an island in the harbor of Charlotte Amalie. If you've been on a cruise you may have waved to them while coming or going...especially if you've been docked at Crown Bay. Anyway, the hurricane is coming right for them. My mom is up here visiting, but my dad is there by himself. So, keep him in your prayers. Keep them all in your prayers.

Putting It Off

I'm putting it off. Unfortunately, I'm not talking about the weight. I'm talking about the gym membership. I can put it on hold and I'm putting it off. I know I have to. Really, what's the point in paying for it if I can't get out the door to go?

But it feels like giving up.

And that I don't like.

So, I have a few more days until I have to make those dreaded keystrokes and resign myself to giving it a go at home. Which I doubt will actually happen. And that stinks.

Darn.

Darn.

Darn.

I've Heard Great Things About This Movie!

The last time I went to the theater was to see.....Open Season, I think. You know, the one that's been out on DVD for about 3 years now? =)

But the movie above, Fireproof, has gotten great reviews and is on my list of "Things I Would Do If Mary Poppins & Publisher's Clearing House Showed Up At My Door." A definite must see.

"Mom? Can I Take a Picture of the Baby?"

See what happens? =)

Why I Love My Job

I was running late tonight at work for a variety of reasons that were not of my doing, but I was left with a choice at 8:03pm. I could either help my last "assignment" (aka-"darling, sweet 96 year old woman") to bed or I could pass her off to the aide working her hallway and go home 3 minutes late vs. 30 minutes late. Either option was my call. I almost let the other aide help her to bed, but then I asked her a question... (all names have been changed for privacy reasons)

"Doris, would you like to go to bed?"

"No,I don't think yet. It's still early."

"Okay, that's fine. I just wanted to give you a choice, because I have you on my list tonight, but it's time for me to go home. If you'd like to go to bed I'm happy to stay and help you, but if you'd like to stay awake I'll let Susie know and she'll help you get to bed later tonight."

"Oh, in that case I'd like you to help me if that's okay."

"Of course it's okay. I'm happy to help you."

"You're always so cheerful and happy and it makes me happy to be in your company."

Did I mention I love Doris? Really. She's a sweet woman who doesn't get nearly as many visitors as she should and who doesn't get a lot of conversation with others, because it takes her awhile to answer sometimes. But I love her.

You know why else I love her? She said she couldn't even tell I'd had three kids and she didn't think I was old enough to have them....because aren't I only 20? Awww....

It was a good choice I made. I'm glad I stayed and left smiling...late, but smiling and thankful that my job gives me plenty of exercise and the opportunity to make people smile and feel loved. That's a good thing.

Does that get me out of going to the gym?

*************************************************************************************

P.S. - My husband pointed out that the gymnastics center that our kids go to offers adult classes. HA! You first, honey.
Seriously? To the lovely person who emailed me and asked if I could ENLARGE the unflattering picture of myself draped over the exercise ball....No. NO. And really, it creeps me out that you want to see that enlarged. No.
