The Pool is Up!

We had a great visit this past weekend with my best friend and her children. The kids all got along and, although it was hectic, we managed to play, swim, eat and sleep. I wish I had taken more pictures, but things were so busy I just didn't. Here are some of the boys taking their first swim in the pool though...

And on a purely promotional note, my Craft Show Safety article made the front page of HandmadeNews.org today! Wahoo! Go me! Can you check it out, vote it up and leave a comment for me? Please? Pretty please? =)

We're Walking!

We started our Walk Across America program this week. I'm joining my mom and her older sister, aka, my aunt. My mom and I decided that maybe calling one another at 6am every morning was not going to be the best plan. Things might happen, like we oversleep, or in some cases, just catch up on sleep. No, the 6am wake-up call was just too much pressure and way too early.

So, the kids and I went for a couple of walks at our local parks. There's one that's particularly fun and although there is no play equipment the boys love the natural surroundings. We spent some time discussing and watching caterpillars, bird watching, and talking about irrigation. It was a solid day of lessons and exercise. Did I mention the boys ran almost the entire two miles? Where they get the energy is beyond me. I thought for sure they'd want a long nap that afternoon. Apparently, I was mistaken. I was ready for a nap, but they were ready to play.

Here are some pictures from our jaunt. As you can see, I am, for some reason, having fun taking pictures of flowers lately. Go figure.

What's All The Buzz About?

Read more about The Great Sunflower Project on HandmadeNews.org.

We participate and so can you!

Pics from the Park

We spent some quality time at the park this weekend for as long as we could stand the heat and glaring sun. It was a beautiful day, but very, very warm for May. Since our kids are pretty much translucent, they were looking like heat-exhausted lobsters (even with a generous slathering of sunscreen!) after about 15 minutes. Here are some pics...

Wisteria, Lilacs and Dandelions

I took some good shots of the things growing in our backyard yesterday. Wisteria that's almost a hundred years old, lilacs that are just starting to bless us with their sweet smell and the perfectly delicate dandelion. Enjoy!

Body Mechanics, Kids Clothes and Handmade News

We had our church's children's consignment sale this weekend. It's always a production, but after 5 sales I've got a routine going that makes things run smoother. Thank heavens!

I had taken off of work during the days, but had forgotten to request off on Saturday and Sunday nights. That, let me just tell you, was a bummer. And apparently, there was no love for me while I was gone, because I had 6 residents each night. That's a lot of lifting and bending and twisting and turning. By Monday morning I was sore!

I think the muscle strain and neck pain that I've been getting these last few months is related to work actually. Work and working on my laptop while sitting on the sofa. Definitely not good body mechanics going on in this body. I'll have to work on it.

On an entirely different note, HandmadeNews.org is going to launch this week. I think tomorrow actually. I have two articles submitted, so we'll see what happens and when they'll post. I'll let you know. I'm really excited about writing for them and can't believe they picked me. I feel very special. Seriously, I do. Go me!

This picture is just a bonus. It's my dad and my youngest son playing video games together. They crack me up. =)

Dead Weight

The thing that I love about working with the elderly is that they are, for the most part, blatantly honest. Why lie when you're 97 and just don't give a hoot anymore about what people think?

Last night I was transporting residents up and down in the elevator to and from dinner. One of the ladies who is still aware and sassy to say the least looked at me and said, "You've got muscles!" Her surprise was evident and quite funny.

I laughed and flexed my arms to the delight of the other commuters. "I do!" I said.

"That must be because you have to lift all this dead weight. Dead weight. Get it?" she chuckled.

God bless her.
